How to set up a QR code photo booth in ten minutes
A step-by-step guide to setting up a QR code photo booth for any event with a checklist for the day itself.
Short answer: design a photo frame in a tool like Pec and print the QR sign it gives you. Put the sign where guests gather and every photo they take lands on your event page.
This guide takes you from nothing to a working QR code photo booth. You need a phone or laptop and somewhere to put a sign.
What you need
- a phone or laptop to design the frame
- a printer for the QR sign or a screen to show it on
- your event name, date and a logo if you have one
Step by step
1. Pick a template or start blank
Open the editor and choose a template. Each one comes with a layout, fonts and a photo frame already in place. Starting blank works too if you have a design in mind.
2. Add your event details
Type the event name and date. Upload a logo and change the colours to match your invitation or brand.
3. Add one or two finishing touches
A sticker or a short line of text such as a hashtag gives guests something extra to share. Keep it light so the photo stays the star.
4. Choose a plan
Pick the plan that covers your guest numbers. Pec Free covers up to 5 guests and paid plans are a one-off price per event.
5. Print the QR sign
Download the sign from your event page and print it. Add the guest link to your event chat as well for anyone who arrives late.
6. Place the sign where people gather
The entrance, the bar and the food table work best. Eye level beats a back wall.
Checklist for the day
- QR sign printed and placed by the entrance
- A second sign at the bar or on each table
- A lamp or warm light near the sign if the room is dark
- The host mentions the booth once out loud
- Your event page open on a screen so guests see photos arrive
After the event
Download every photo as one zip from your event page. Sharing the album the next day is a good way to thank guests for coming.
Frequently asked questions
Does a QR code photo booth need Wi-Fi?
Guests need mobile data or Wi-Fi to open the page and send the photo. The photo is put together on the phone so a weak signal is usually enough.
Do guests have to give their name or email?
No. Pec does not ask guests for any details. The camera is only used while the page is open.
Can guests use the front and back camera?
Yes. They can switch cameras for a selfie or a group shot or upload a photo they already took.
